Why Shift? |
||
BALLE Nova Scotia connects and strengthens local, independent businesses in our communities. Our members work together to educate the public about local products and services and promote sustainable local living in Nova Scotia. The 10% Shift campaign encourages Nova Scotia household buyers to shift 10 per cent of their household expenses from non-local businesses to local, independent businesses. By making a modest shift in shopping habits, Nova Scotians can have a profound impact on their economy. MAKE CHANGE WITH YOUR WALLETThe 10% Shift gives each of us the power to change the local economy and revive our downtown communities. Money spent locally strengthens our economy with new jobs and strong business communities. Did you know? For every dollar you spend locally, 45 cents goes back into the local economy. Only 15 cents is distributed locally when that dollar is spent in a big box store.
SHIFT DON’T SPEND MOREShifting 10 per cent of your purchases towards local businesses doesn’t mean spending more money. You can make a change without increasing your spending. Did you know?In Nova Scotia, $187 million is spent each month on groceries. If only 10 per cent of that total was spent on local food products, our local economy would be infused with almost $19 million.
